This is sad...and unfortunately very true.
Some women don’t realize the violence they have suffered during childbirth. They are, understandably, wrapped up in the moment and simply don’t realize what is going on. Those sharing the moment with them usually don’t understand either. They trust their doctor, the nurses, the hospital, to protect them and their birth, but too often that isn’t the case.
There are so many things that can be done to change this, but it takes education...education mom and dad, education those who will be there to advocate for them, the doula, etc.
Choosing your birth support is a serious endeavor and one that can totally change the birth experience for better...or for worse.
Educate yourself as much as you can. Have a Birth Plan and discuss its reality with your doctor and your partner. Know your rights as a birthing woman. Know the hospital protocols that may prevent your best experience vision. Choose your labor and birth support carefully.
